As a special operations trainer I observed that farm boys performed better than all the rest, both physically and mentally. That’s because fitness is about efficient problem solving. There is a huge difference between working out at a gym to get buff and learning to use your mind and body to solve real problems, especially ones that require significant physical effort.
With exercise, we too often make things as difficult as possible for the sake of burning more calories and building more muscle without any performance feedback except a good burn and sore muscles. Too much of this makes us ‘dumb’ when it comes to handling real work. We are creatures of habit! Be mindful of your exercise section and how you adapt to them. You can’t go wrong by regularly introducing real work into your routine, like carrying things from place to place. Moving things is basic and necessary, and you should practice it!
